If you’ve been feeling like you want to start attending church again, there’s never a bad time to go back. Just about all of the churches in Temecula will welcome you and your family with open arms at any time of the year (and any church that doesn’t is not one you want to attend anyway). You might think that Christmas or Easter would be the best time to visit a new church, but actually September is typically a really great time, and here’s why:
Bible Studies and Groups Are Starting Up
The programs at many Temecula churches, outside of Sunday morning worship services, typically follow the Temecula school district’s calendar. This means that in late August and early September, you will find all types of classes, groups, and activities starting up again, after having taken a break for the summer.
In many churches in Temecula, new Bible studies are starting up. You can find studies that are geared toward men, women, or couples. If you want to meet to study the Bible during the day, the evening, or even on a weekend, you can likely find a group that meets at a time that works for you. Some Bible studies even offer childcare if you have a little one who isn’t enrolled in school yet, or if you have kids who are homeschooled.
Most churches will also offer fellowship groups of some kind, which often meet in homes, instead of on the church campus. These groups go by many different names, such as home groups, small groups, fellowship groups, life groups, growth groups, etc. The purposes of these groups can vary, but many of them are designed for people to form close connections with a small group of people from within the larger church body. The Fall is a great time to join a fellowship group, since it is often the time that new groups are being formed, or existing small groups welcome new members.
Christmas or Easter are good times to visit a church if you want to check things out, but fly somewhat under the radar. There are so many visitors during these services that you likely won’t stand out as someone who’s new. However, if you want to go to a church and start getting involved and making connections with people in the church right away, September may just be the ideal time!
Student Ministries Are Reorganizing
Typically, with the start of a new school year, the church ministries dedicated to students are also starting up again. Students move up to the next grade level in their Sunday school classes and start new curriculum. Small groups within middle school and high school ministries are changing and getting new leaders. There may even be some “back to school” events planned within student ministries. If you have kids who you would like to see get plugged into church with you, starting up in September will help make the transition process a lot easier!
Of course, if you don’t make it to church in September, you haven’t missed your window of opportunity. Like we stated in the beginning of this article, there’s never a bad time to go back to church!
